NetEye and GLPI at the it-sa 2023 in Nuremberg: A holistic Approach to IT Systems Management

Over the last three days, it-sa Nuremberg brought together the main players of the IT security industry, with approximately 800 exhibitors showcasing their expertise. At the event, GLPI, in collaboration with our partners from Würth Phoenix and Gravitate, took the spotlight as they presented their comprehensive monitoring solution, NetEye. This presentation captivated the attention of visitors, providing them with profound insights into how NetEye seamlessly integrates monitoring and surveillance across all components, including Asset Management, into a centralized solution.  “At the end of the day, the primary goal for IT professionals remains constant: ensuring uninterrupted application availability for end-users. Downtimes are simply not an option; they underpin the very core of all business processes,” eloquently summarizes Claus Huber, CEO of Gravitate, as he encapsulates the challenges faced by our valued customers.

NetEye, SIEM, and SOC – Seamless Synergy

The visitors showcase featured the application of NetEye with SIEM technology within Security Operations Centers (SOCs), alongside integrated asset management enhancements enabled by GLPI.  “We resonated with a multitude of visitors through our presentation of NetEye and GLPI,” notes Georg Kostner, Business Unit Manager and NetEye Mastermind at Würth Phoenix. “The positive response at our booth and the subsequent follow-up appointments further reinforce our commitment to in-house development, close partnerships, and platform expansion,” Kostner emphasizes.

20 Years of Development with Visions that Became Reality

Two decades ago, Würth Phoenix embarked on a journey to develop a holistic solution for IT monitoring, including GLPI. This endeavor was inspired by the realization, gleaned from numerous Systems Management and Security projects, that existing singular solutions on the market catered to highly specific requirements, leaving a critical gap in comprehensive monitoring. No solution could seamlessly amalgamate all facets of information security and business-critical data into monitoring, thereby creating a real-time depiction of IT impact chains.

Cyberattacks are on the Rise – Path Attack Management with XM Cyber

Another highlight at our partners booth was the unveiling of XM Cyber’s Path Management, harnessing the power of artificial intelligence. As an XM Cyber partner, Gravitate showed how Attack Management adopts the attacker’s perspective, scrutinizing an entire company’s IT landscape through the eyes of an intruder. It seeks to identify the quickest and easiest routes to access the ‘crown jewels,’ the most precious information within the organization. The analysis results inform the most efficient security enhancement measures. The considerable interest in XM Cyber is no coincidence. Data theft and digital espionage inflict an annual cost of €206 billion on the German economy, with the actual figure likely being much higher due to underreporting. Moreover, the threat of cyberattacks fueled by artificial intelligence has significantly intensified in recent times. XM Cyber addresses this critical gap in cybersecurity.

Together with our partners from Würth Phoenix an GLPI we look forward to your visit on October 22-24, 2024, at Hall 7, Booth 547. See you next year!!

Teclib was invited to talk about GLPI – the presentation was titled  “From Good to Great: GLPI’s Latest Enhancements in Asset Management and Ticketing – Achieving ITIL Compliance with Unified Monitoring Synergy”  and was a celebration of GLPI’s remarkable journey over the past 20 years.

One of the standout features of GLPI is its ability to offer a wide range of functionalities within a single platform. Whether it’s asset management, ticketing, or user management, GLPI brings all these features together seamlessly.

The presentation also highlighted the platform’s commitment to improving, and staying at the forefront of IT asset management and ticketing solutions. Teclib’s role as the official editor of GLPI was acknowledged as a growing factor in this journey, emphasising the importance of collaboration, community, and open source in the world of IT management.

GLPI is constantly evolving, and the audience got a glimpse of what’s in store for the future. The commitment to staying up-to-date with industry trends is one of the priorities, we were happy to share work in progress.

Teclib and Würth Phoenix are forging a strong partnership aimed at advancing open-source collaboration through the integration of GLPI into NetEye, creating an integrated unified system platform.

This collaborative effort operates on several key fronts, including Research and Development, where both teams pool their expertise to improve the capabilities of NetEye.

Additionally, the partnership places a significant emphasis on Security with a DevSecOps approach, ensuring that the integrated solution maintains the highest levels of data protection and resilience. Furthermore, their joint Customer Service Support and Delivery – Consultancy efforts ensure that clients receive appropriate  assistance and consulting services throughout their journey with the integrated NetEye platform.

Success story: Ddosoft

Ddosoft

Meet Ali Burak, the co-founder of DDOSOFT, a dynamic software development company. Ali’s journey with GLPI began a couple of years ago when his team was facing the challenge of expensive agents in their ticket management software, Jira. Seeking an open source solution, Ali discovered GLPI while browsing the internet:

ddosoft success story

Ali’s Journey with GLPI: Streamlining Business with Open Source

It was a couple of years ago. I was working with the Jira software and the agents were getting expensive, so we were looking for an open source solution. I came across GLPI on the internet. I think the first version I tried was 9.3.”

At DDOSOFT, they opted to use GLPI on-premise, managing it through their own virtual data center where they’ve set up Linux and Windows servers. For their business, Asset Management and Assistance features proved to be crucial:

“When I was looking for a ticket management software, I saw GLPI that apart from being a ticket management software could also take care of the assets and assistance. So I said “let’s give it a try”. And, I have installed it and am still using it. We have seen the effects both in Asset management and Assistance. We are now aware of how many devices we actually have in real numbers, and can monitor if something is installed on the computer or if any assets appear. And for Assistance, we have lots of phone calls and now we have control over them. We have a history of what we have done and a knowledge base that we have created to use it if we came across similar issues”.

Ali explains that initially, they were seeking a ticket management software, but GLPI’s versatility caught their attention. Not only could it handle tickets efficiently, but it also provided a robust system for asset management and assistance. Intrigued, they decided to give it a try, and the decision paid off. With GLPI, they gained better visibility into their actual device count and could easily track software installations or changes in assets.

Assistance also saw a major boost. DDOSOFT now had a structured approach to handling phone calls and queries. With a well-organized history of actions and a growing knowledge base, they efficiently tackled similar issues that cropped up over time.

One of their favorite GLPI plugins is the inventory plugin, particularly useful due to their extensive inventory of devices like tablets, computers, and networking equipment. The plugin helps them maintain a clear picture of software installations and device counts across their infrastructure.

When asked about the best GLPI feature, Ali highlights Assistance and Helpdesk, citing their ticket and document management capabilities as game-changers. He appreciates the user-friendly interface of the software’s newer version, emphasizing its enhanced responsiveness and ease of use.

For Ali, the open source nature of GLPI and the strong community support it enjoys are crucial factors. In an industry where pricing matters, having a trustworthy open source community backing the software is invaluable. Ali and his team were able to leverage their technical expertise to install and use GLPI on-premise with confidence:

“Yes, because for companies price is a very important thing. But the most important thing is the open source community. We can trust it. Actually, in commercial versions of some softwares I cannot trust. We had the technical knowledge so we could easily install it and use it on premise”.

Summing up his experience with GLPI, Ali underscores its substantial impact on their business organization. From version nine to the present, GLPI’s Assistant and Asset Management modules have played a pivotal role in helping them maintain order and stay on top of their assets. In Ali’s own words, GLPI has significantly contributed to the improvement of their business operations.
