Counting with more than 250 employees and operating several offices, we were in the need of the complete ITSM solution, focused on users support and request tracking, but at the same time we wanted to get the full insight for our tech park and assets, licenses and providers.

Manage and inventory computers. Number of information fields is available: operating system (name, version, service pack), product ID, serial number, the general characteristics (type, manufacturer, model, serial number), information management (technician in charge, status, location) and users of the position (known or not in GLPI).
Manage and inventory monitors. You can import the following information:
management of the monitor (the technical manager, his status, the place where he is located); general characteristics of the station (the manufacturer, the model, the type, the serial number); users of the station; specifications
Network hardware represents the hardware that manages, transmits and routes the network between other hardware (computers, printers). Network devices can be a switch, an ethernet hub, a router, a firewall or a wireless access point (Wi-Fi).

We use GLPI as the main Helpdesk tool for user support and as inventory tracker, extra functionality, as knowledge base, and to have full track of licenses and provider statuses.
Pros of having GLPI are numerous, it is a robust and flexible tool, with easy-to-extend functionality due to the great plugin portfolio, allowing a quick and successful deploy of (in our case) Helpdesk services.

A newly revealed critical vulnerability impacting Apache Log4j was disclosed and registered as CVE-2021-44228 with the highest severity rating. Log4j is an open-source, Java-based logging utility widely used by enterprise applications and cloud services. By exploiting this vulnerability, a remote attacker could take control of the affected system.
We would like to assure all users that GLPI core and its plugins, being written in PHP and not using Log4j, are not affected by the Log4Shell vulnerability.
Exploiting this vulnerability requires a Java Virtual Machine and the org.apache.logging.log4j.core.lookup.JndiLookup Java class in a vulnerable version. None of them are included or used in GLPI distributions.
We can also confirm that:
- GLPI Android Agent (writen in Java), doesn’t use Log4j library, and thus is not affected by the Log4Shell vulnerability
- GLPI Agent (writen in Perl), is not affected by the Log4Shell vulnerability
Warning: this does not prevent layers/tools potentially upstream of GLPI (reverse-proxy, firewall, etc.), or connected to GLPI, which we are not aware of in your context, from being potentially impacted.
For example, if you have a Metabase server connected to GLPI you should note that Metabase (<0.41.4) is affected by Log4j vulnerability, and you should update it ASAP!
